Before you come in, take a breath
Villas Ahal is a naturist hotel for people over 18 years old. Clothing is optional here, respect is not. You won't find explicit content: just jungle, calm and a place to inhabit your body naturally.
By entering you accept our privacy notice and our house rules.
The story of a naturist hotel that grew out of a simple idea and a Mayan word.
Villas Ahal grew out of the idea of building a place inside nature: somewhere to leave the city behind, be at peace, and share something unhurried between the people who host and the people who arrive.
There was no business plan before there was a place. First there was a piece of land in Chemuyil, in the middle of the Quintana Roo jungle, surrounded by ceibas, chit palms and every kind of animal. A paved road that ends where the quiet begins. And one certainty: dawn here is a chorus of birds, and that is not something you can buy.
The villas went up one at a time, with palapa roofs, local timber and the intention that the architecture should not compete with what was already there. Then came the pool, then the gardens, then the guests.
And with the guests came the part nobody had planned: that a lot of people were looking for exactly the same thing. Somewhere they would not have to explain themselves.
“We are in the middle of the jungle, surrounded by every kind of animal. Dawn is a spectacle of birdsong, deeply relaxing.”
Juan · Host at Villas Ahal
In Maya, ahal is the awakening. The moment something opens its eyes again, just as the first light reaches the jungle.
Our emblem is the ceiba, the sacred tree of the Maya: the one that joins the earth, the sky and the underworld. A symbol of roots, shelter and life. It is drawn in a single fine, symmetrical line, its canopy opening calmly beneath a terracotta arc that stands for the rising sun.
But the ceiba holds a second reading. Looked at slowly, its shapes trace a person at rest, inverted, meditating, closed by the dot at the base like someone gathering into themselves. Tree and human being are, here, the same image: to put down roots in order to find peace.
Naturism is not a provocation. It is a way of being somewhere without your body being a problem.
Villas Ahal is a naturist hotel in the Riviera Maya: a place where clothing is optional and where nobody is keeping track of whether you are wearing any. There is no display and no embarrassment. There are people reading by the pool, having breakfast under a palapa, walking between the plants.
Naturism has a long and simple history: the idea that being without clothes, in contact with sun, water and nature, is healthy, levelling and deeply calming. When nobody is wearing a brand, an age or a size, the conversation changes. It is hard to explain until you have tried it.
Nudity here is optional. Respect and consent are not.
That is why we are clear about what we are not: not a swingers club, not a lifestyle venue, and there is nothing explicit anywhere on the property. We are a naturist hotel for adults who want to rest, and that distinction is exactly what makes the place work.
If it is your first time, there is no ceremony. You can arrive dressed, see how it feels, and decide in your own time — or never decide at all. Nobody is going to ask.
Nothing happens without it. Not a photo, not an approach, not a conversation someone would rather not have.
We built with what was here and we protect what remained. The planting, the spider monkeys and the silence are part of the hotel.
We are on Mayan land. The name, the emblem and the materials come from here, not from a catalogue.
Made of silence, light and detail. Not of marble or excess. Everything you need, nothing surplus.
Ahal is not run from an office. It is looked after in person, every day.
Juan cooks breakfast, cycles around the area, knows every free cenote within walking distance, and likes talking with guests when the day allows it. Paola holds the rest together. The house dog usually beats them both to the door.
That is probably why the hotel's highest rated category on Booking is Staff, at 9.7 out of 10. The reviews keep repeating the same names.
We speak Spanish and enough English to point you towards somewhere that is not in the guidebooks.
Write to us and we will put your stay together: dates, villa, and whatever you want to do while you are in the jungle.
